Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, is Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in the United Arab Emirates; and a prominent humanitarian and philanthropist whose many roles include the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children. She is also a leading advocate of numerous social causes such as cancer awareness, education, entrepreneurship, children’s and women’s empowerment and cultural heritage among others.
About Al Qasimi
During the seventeenth century Al Qawasim family possessed the most powerful maritime forces in the waters of the lower Arabian Gulf, asserting control even in the face of encroachments by the British. Sharjah and Ras Al-Khayma were the most prominent regional ports. The most notable ruler of the region from 1727 to 1777 was Rashid bin Mattar Al Qasimi, who claimed descent from the prophet Muhammad. The patriarch of the current rulers of Sharjah is Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr bin Rashid Al Qasimi, who ruled for fifty years starting in 1804. The Qasimi Family continues to live in Sharjah under the current Ruler His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher is Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates. He has ruled Sharjah since 1972, and is also an established historian who has published several theatrical and literary works.
